Remembering Robin Williams on what would have been his 67th Birthday

Three years ago, the world said goodbye to Robin Williams - a man who brought us a level of laughter and love matched by no other.

Despite being taken far too soon, Robin Williams left us with a plethora of moments, memories and iconic words we’ll never forget.

Although the Oscar-winner has given the entertainment industry, and the world so much, his greatest legacy are his children, Cody, 25, Zelda, 27, Zak, 34.

In celebration of what would have been Robin’s 67th birthday, we’ve taken a look back at the incredible life of the man who brought immeasurable joy to ours.

Whether it was the time he captured our imagination as the Genie in Aladdin, made us belly-laugh in his countless TV appearances or how he broke impossible boundaries in Mrs Doubtfire, Robin Williams was undeniably one of the greats.

He’s given us some of cinema’s most hilarious performances in films such as Good Morning Vietnam and also moved audiences in highly respected dramatic roles like Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting.

There’s no question that he was an entertainer through-and-through, but as we learnt in the time after his death in August 2014, he was also a great friend, incredible father and a brilliant human being.

The legendary actor put it best himself when he said, “you’re only given a little spark of madness, you mustn’t lose it.”

President Barack Obama released a statement when the dad-of-three passed away capturing our the entire world felt, “He was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.”

Joan Rivers died just weeks after Robin, the pair were both legends of comedy with the red-carpet host revealing about her pal: “Robin was one of the great interviews. You’d see him coming down that red carpet and you knew, OK, now we’re gonna have fun.”

Shorty after his death, Robin’s friend Ellen DeGeneres paid a touching tribute to him on her show saying, “every time he was here he made me laugh so hard, he was really one of a kind and I’m thankful I got to call him a friend.”

He brought to life one of the world’s most beloved characters Mrs Doubtfire and never failed to teach us a lesson or two about life, “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”

Robin Williams blew us away in Patch Adams and he once revealed of being a comedian that “comedy is acting out optimism.”

“When I’m awake, I don’t want to go to sleep. I don’t want the hassle of turning the light off, putting my head down and then all the thoughts. I don’t want all those thoughts,” Robin Williams poignantly observed.

Robin cared greatly for his friends,”My battles with addiction definitely shaped how I am now. They really made me deeply appreciate human contact. And the value of friends and family, how precious that is.”

The iconic film Jumanji defined our childhood! His young co-star, Bradley Pierce said, “He was an absolute inspiration to me just like he was to everybody else who knew him and even so many people who didn’t. He was an amazing guy and he’ll definitely be missed.”

Robin and his adored daughter Zelda. He was devoted to his kids, once joking that he confuses his daughter with the actual Princess Zelda. Why? Because they’re “both pretty magical.”

The legendary actor adored his children, pictured here with his son Zak. “I miss him all the time,” Zak said. “Often I see something or if I’m watching a film, I think, ‘Oh, man, he would have appreciated this’ or ‘He would have gotten a laugh out of this.’

“I’m a born entertainer. When I open the fridge door and the light goes on, I burst into song,” the star, pictured with Birdcage co-star Nathan Lane, once reflected.
