After nearly 15 years of marriage, Gina Torres and Laurence Fishburne have announced that they have broken up.
The beloved Suits actress shared a statement, which read: “With heavy hearts, Laurence and I quietly separated and began the dissolution of our marriage in the early fall of last year.
The 48-year-old added, “There are no bad guys here. Only a love story with a different ending than either one of us had expected.”
They got engaged in February, 2001 and tied the knot in September, 2002.
Together, Gina and Lawrence share their 16-year-old daughter Delilah, and are focused on continuing to co-parent her.
The couple in happier times.
“Happily, our family remains intact and we will continue to raise our daughter with love and joy and awe. As well as raise each other up with respect and love and the continued understanding that we’re in this together, if not side by side.”
Gina, who became a household name as Meghan Markle’s co-star on the legal drama Suits portraying the character of Jessica Pearson, was spotted a week ago locking lips with a mystery man.
Just last September, the actress announced that she had quit Suits after six years because “my personal life needed to be tended to.”
The Suits gang describe themselves as a “family”.
“I think the public doesn’t understand the rigors of shooting a show for an actor, much less when you’re on location and away from home,” she confessed at the time.
“At one point I approach Aaron [Korsh, the showrunner,] and said, ‘It’s not that I don’t love the show and love Jessica [Pearson, my character,] who is my alter ego. But my life is my life and I need to take care of it.’ And everyone was really supportive.'”
Gina and Lawrence both starred in Matrix Reloaded and Hannibal.
