Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban may have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in June but, like most marriages, the whole decade hasn’t been smooth sailing.
Country singing star Keith Urban has recently opened up about how he’s found his marriage a “learning curve” and how he and his actress wife have had to work on the ways they make their marriage work.
“I had such a learning curve in our marriage!” 48-year-old Urban told Hits magazine. “When she’d get scared, I’d think she was angry; then I’d get defensive, go tearing out the driveway at 90 miles an hour. And that’s when it all gets pear-shaped.”
Keith was talking about his love song The Fighter when he made the marriage comments and revealed that the lyrics reveal how he and the mother to his two daughters deal with conflict.
“What she needs, and it’s all in the song, is for me to stay, to be close, to hear her,” said Keith.
He added: “Get Closer: the album title alone was literally from this new awareness I had with this reality of how to react. When things are tough or upsetting, it’s about pulling her close. That’s what she needs, and I had to learn it.”
The loved up couple tied the knot in June 2006 during a lavish Sydney wedding and back in June 49-year-old Nicole also reflected on her marriage to Who magazine.
“It’s so beautiful to be celebrating our 10-year anniversary in Sydney, where we got married,” the Oscar-winner told the glossy.
“We just remember the love and warmth from so many people on that day… Ten years on, we’re having more fun than ever with each other, and with our kids. What a blessing.”
The pair share two children, eight-year-old Sunday Rose and five-year-old Faith, and Keith, who has battled addiction in the past, also said in his recent Hits interview that his wife shapes the man he is today.
“Because of her, if I open up, every day, I’m listening and growing and learning,” said Keith. “If I’m a better man, it’s because of her.”
