Short hairstyles so hot, you’ll think it’s summer all year

Plus, three ways to style each cut.

Think cutting off your hair is a risky move? Think again. It’s the most versatile look you’ll wish you did ages ago. These stars show how one short hairstyle can be styled three different ways

rosie 3 – the beachy lob

THE KEY LOOK… THE BEACHY LOB: “This textured, tousled long bob is so on trend,” says celebrity hairstylist Richard Ward. Blow-dry small sections of hair, then wrap each around two fingers and secure with a clip. Do this over the whole head. Remove the clips after 15 minutes for loose, luscious waves.

rosie 2 – The straight-up

ALSO TRY… THE STRAIGHT-UP: Dishevelled and less structured than the first, Ward recommends using a medium tong, taking small sections and loosely wrapping around the tong. “Once you’ve finished the whole head, flip upside down and brush your fingers through. Finish with a styling spray.

rosie 3 – the classy part

AND… THE CLASSY PART: Change your look by opting for an extreme side part with a loose wave. Ward says this look is perfect for second-day hair where the wave has dropped for a natural, chic style. He recommends a nourishing serum to eliminate frizz.

jenna-1 – Elegant sleek

THE KEY LOOK… ELEGANT SLEEK: Hairstylist Brad Ngata says to “flat wrap” dry hair to get this look. Brush the hair downwards with a large paddle brush as you blow-dry it. “This will give a smooth finish and an immaculate shine,” he says. Finish with a straightener, and a lightweight serum.

jenna-2 – The day flick

ALSO TRY… THE DAY FLICK: “Air-drying is the latest hair trend at the moment,” says Ngata. “Simply wash and go, and try not to touch the hair if you can,” he says. A leave-in conditioner works best to keep it soft and to avoid frizz.

jenna-3 – glam waves

AND… GLAM WAVES: For a dropped wave, Ngata says to use a wand to create a subtle bend to the hair. “Start by wrapping the hair half around the wand, hold, then move the wand down and hold in the opposite direction. Work your way down the hair and leave the ends out,” he says.

vanessa-1 – red-carpet waves

THE KEY LOOK… RED CARPET WAVES: Ward says to take small horizontal sections when hair is wet, blow-dry and set in small Velcro rollers. Do this over the whole head, allow hair to dry, then comb through with a wide-tooth comb. This look can also be achieved on dry hair using a small heated curling iron.

vanessa-2 – rock chic

ALSO TRY… ROCK CHIC: “Start off with straight hair then take a large round brush and comb hair back,” says Ward. He recommends applying a hairspray to get volume and hold. Then take a large section just above the ear on each side and secure with a clip for a half up, half down look.

vanessa-3- the straight bob

AND… THE STRAIGHT BOB: To get this look, Ward recommends applying a heat protection spray to wet hair and then blow-drying hair super straight using a small round brush. To create even more texture, you can add a dry shampoo to the roots and fluff up your hair with your fingertips.

taylor-1 – fringed sleek

THE KEY LOOK… FRINGED SLEEK: For this look, you’ll need your hairdresser to cut your hair in line with your chin to frame the face, says Ward. Apply a moisturising elixir on wet hair and blow-dry using a large round brush. “This look is the definition of short hair chic,” he says.

taylor -2 – The textured bob

ALSO TRY… THE TEXTURED BOB: “Tuck a sweeping fringe behind the ear to achieve this cute, feminine style,” says Ward. First, part hair on the far side of your head and run a straightening iron over locks. “When using heated styling tools use a deep conditioning mask once a week.”

taylor-3 – The pony twist

AND… THE PONY TWIST: If you have a fringe, sweep it to the side for a softer look. Ward says to pull hair into a messy bun at the nape of the neck and finish off with a styling spray. “It’s a great look if you are growing out a front fringe,” he adds.

julianne-1 – the side bend

THE KEY LOOK… THE SIDE BEND: Ngata says to start with a large tong and wind the hair around it at mid shaft. Hold for 20 seconds, release and, while hot, pull the curl out to drop it. Repeat over your whole head and finish with a spray of dry shampoo. “This will give a fantastic base to then brush one side back and secure the shape,” he says.

julianne-2 – The dressy updo

ALSO TRY… THE DRESSY UP-DO: Using a large barrel tong, wrap the hair around the tong, working up and down the lengths in random sections. “This will put a slight bend into the hair and keep the ends straight,” says Ngata, who suggests using a lightweight wax and going through the hair with your fingers to create a dishevelled look.

julianne-3 – daytime texture

AND… DAYTIME TEXTURE: “Simply tip your head upside down and blast the hair with hot and cold air on your hairdryer. This will give movement and bounce,” Ngata explains. Finish with a serum on the mid lengths to smooth the hair down and for relaxed styling.

miranda-1 – hollywood glam

THE KEY LOOK… HOLLYWOOD GLAM: “The best way to create volume is to use Velcro rollers on the top layer of hair,” says Ngata. Mist nearly dry hair with hairspray and scatter rollers throughout the hair. Leave them in for at least 15 minutes and, after removing, tousle hair with your fingertips to separate the curls.

Miranda 2 – The fancy tuck

ALSO TRY… THE FANCY TUCK: After blow-drying, smooth out the hair with a straightening iron to create a polished, sleek finish. Ngata suggests you simply part on the side and tuck around the side of your head. “Finish with a shine spray to keep it glossy.”

miranda-3 – the soft side

AND… THE SOFT SIDE: For this daytime textured look, Ngata recommends using a large, round brush, and as you dry the hair, direct the hair forward. When the hair settles, flip it back to the side for volume. Finish with a texturiser and shine spray to add volume and keep hair radiant.
